Integritas: A Dialogue on Faith and Mental Health

About this Event

Join us online or at a host site parish to dialogue about mental health topics through a Catholic lens, facilitated by a mental health professional equipped to answer your questions. 

The four topics on the following dates will be:

Jan 25th - Session 1: Introduction - PJ Lewis

Feb 15th - Session 2: Mental health - Denis Boyd

Mar 22nd - Session 3: Mental illness - PJ Lewis 

Apr 26th - Session 4: Self-care – Denis Boyd 

Time: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Locations: Online or in-person at Saint Mary Parish, Vancouver; Saint Patrick Parish, Maple Ridge; Christ the Redeemer, West Vancouver; Good Shepherd Church (Star of the Sea Parish), Surrey.

About the speakers

Speaker: PJ Lewis: PJ is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and a Canadian Certified Counsellor, having received his Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University. 

One of the co-founders of Lifted Counselling and Consulting Inc., and the DBT Centre of the Fraser Valley, PJ has particular expertise in providing individual, group, and family treatment to high-risk youth and families experiencing concerns such as suicidality, self-harm, impulsivity, depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and addictions. PJ focuses his practice from an interpersonal approach with thoughtful integration of behavioural, skill-based strategies.

As a speaker and consultant, PJ has presented at numerous forums, workshops, and conferences locally, nationally, and internationally providing skill-based training for parents, educators, counsellors, and healthcare professionals. 

PJ is deeply committed to family life with his wife and four children, active in the life of his parish, and involved in a number of initiatives in the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Speaker: Denis Boyd: Denis Boyd is a Registered Psychologist and received his Master of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia. He is a member of the B.C. College of Psychologists and the B.C. Psychological Association.

Denis works as a psychologist in private practice in Coquitlam. He is part of the group Boyd & Associates, a practice run by two of his children. Denis works with clients suffering from a variety of mental health issues and focuses much of his time on marriage and grief. He is eclectic in his use of psychological approaches, which include Adlerian, Cognitive/behavioural, existential, and emotionally focused therapies.

Denis was a Clinical Assistant Professor of medicine at the University of British Columbia and also helped to create the first hospice program in B.C. in 1975. He has published a book titled, "Marriage Can Be Great!...no really," which provides tips and strategies that can assist in strengthening relationships.

Most importantly, Denis has been married to Maureen for over forty-five years, and they have four children and four grandchildren.
